Joseph Andrews1

M, #221, (c 1801 - 1885)

Children of Joseph Andrews and Jean Armour

The 1871 and 1881 census records in Portland show Joseph Andrews as born in Ireland. On the other hand, there is a family story that he was actually born in England (no knowledge of where) and went to live with an uncle in Ireland, went to Dublin University, and was a cabinetmaker. His occupation as listed in the census records is carpenter.
The birth dates, even the years, for the Andrews children are very difficult to determine. There are a number of conflicting sources (mostly census records), none of which seem very reliable. I have made some rather arbitrary compromises in the stated birth years below. One helpful guide is the set of marriage notices for the three eldest daughters in Daniel Johnson's compilation of New Brunswick newspaper notices.
