  •      It is unclear what the proper surname for Mary Naomi may be. She appears as Naomi Feindel in the 1871 census, Bridgewater, with the family of Lewis and Mary Ann (Carver) Kindervater. I believe her mother is Mary Ann Carver, born before the 1863 marriage of Lewis and Mary. In the English records (birth registrations) for the three children known to be born there to Joseph and Mary Naomi Sharpe, the mother's maiden name is recorded as Carver. All this would be straightforward except for one problem: her marriage to the English soldier Joseph Sharpe. I think that marriage is the one at Trinity Anglican, Halifax, in 1879, but the marriage registration gives the bride's surname as Parkinson. The information given for the groom Joseph describes him perfectly, but I don't have any idea why the Parkinson name appears for Mary. The age given for her in the marriage registration is 19, whereas she was likely only about 17; it is possible some fictitious information was made up for her. They were married by license, not banns.

  • 1871 Can. Census: Naomi Feindel appeared on the 1871 Census of Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, enumerated 2 April 1871.1
  • 1881 Brit. Census: She and Joseph Sharpe appeared on the 1881 Census Dunmow, enumerated 3 April 1881. Their son Joseph Thomas was listed as living with them.2
