(?) Treffian

M, #879
According to Bell's Register notes, the names of the four TREFFIAN individuals on the victualling list of Aug-Oct. 1752 (List No. 3) are "Maria, Philip, Barbara, Catharina Treffian". They came on the Pearl in 1751, and may be siblings, though Bell's Register notes are not definitive on this point. Bell writes, in the page on Johann Philip Treffian (673): "Treffian marriage in Nova Scotia suggests that the oldest of the women was not his wife. Possibly a mother: more likely, perhaps, in view of the marriage in Nova Scotia, the eldest of three sisters accompanying their brother."
A later note on the same page states: "... it seems certain that the ostensible "Anna Catharina" of the marriage to [Ulrich] Hubley in 1753 (see above) must actually have been the "Maria" Treffian of the Pearl's list, and that she must have been mother or older sister of the two younger Treffian girls."1
