Caroline Young

F, #7989, (1827 - 1912)

Children of Caroline Young and Benjamin David Hirtle

It is not clear who Caroline, wife of Benjamin David Hirtle, may be. I am aware of a number of family trees which say that she is Caroline Barbara Langille, but on the other hand there are records indicating that she is Caroline Young. I have adopted the latter choice because the sources for this seem more convincing to me. They include, for example, the birth record for daughter Adelaide in 1867 which give the parents as Benjamin Hirtle and Caroline Young (although that record also says the parents married in 1849, which I suspect may be "off" a bit). Similarly for the 1940 death record of James Albert Hirtle. There is also a will extract for Benjamin indicating that his widow had surname Young.
Caroline Young was born in April 1827 in Young's Island, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada.1 She married Benjamin David Hirtle, son of Johannes Leonard Hirtle and Rebecca Magdalena Hiltz, circa 1846 in South, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada.2 Caroline Young died on 10 August 1912 in Oakland, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 85.1
