Children of Susan MacDonald and Joseph Gammon

The identification of the Susan MacDONALD who marries Joseph GAMMON as a daughter of this particular Alexander and Mary MacDONALD couple is somewhat speculative, though many have taken it to be the case.
The main objection is probably the naming on her death registration in 1922 as having a mother with surname ROBAR. No given name is provided for the mother. The informant is a Miss Alice A. 'Something or other' -- the surname is unclear, at least to this writer. She is not of any specified relationship to Susan.
One has to wonder how reliable the information provided by a non-relative on an 84-year old widow would be -- especially for something like the maiden name of the mother. A general rule of thumb is to regard derivative, or secondary, sources as having a greater likelihood of being reliable the closer they are to the event. Here we are rather far removed from the birth of Susan.
There actually is some evidence for a marriage in 1818 between an Alexander McDONALD and a Mary ROBAR, though it is in Chester. The argument for the Alexander and Mary Ann (CUNNINGHAM) MacDONALD couple, who married in Shelburne County, depends primarily on location, given that other MacDONALDs (my own line) came from Shelburne to Harrigan Cove in the same time frame.
